A call to action

Date: September 12, 2025

In light of the tragedies and violence that have shaken our communities this week, many of us are feeling confused, hopeless, or angry. We could have never predicted how corrupt or misguided our world would become. Regardless of our political views, we are united by one truth: every human being deserves to live free from fear.

Yet today, we have seen assassinations, school shootings, thefts, and the targeting of people for no more than their skin color, their language, or where they come from. Something is deeply wrong!

I cannot point to the exact root cause, but I know this did not happen overnight. Little by little, hatred has crept back into our society-disguised in respectability and a nice suit or dress-while we have become desensitized or too distracted with our lives to notice. Yes, we. We allowed it, often without realizing it. In striving to avoid repeating history and the atrocities humankind can inflict, we overlooked how hate found new ways to slip through the cracks.

So, how do we make our world, our country, and our neighborhoods better? There is no simple answer. But here is where we begin: we must face the reality of the evil around us. Call it out. Stop excusing it. God did not "let this happen"-we did, through arrogance, division, and misplaced pride. We have been so egotistical that we thought we knew better, and our vote made us superior and better than others. Sit with that for a moment, then allow ourselves grace. There is no shame in change. The good news is that we have the option to choose differently. We can humble ourselves, return to compassion, and invite God back into the center of our communities. That, my friends, is the first step. We must start loving without limits. It doesn't matter someone's background, identity, or beliefs-every person bleeds red. Right or left, straight or gay, dark or light, old or young-our shared humanity calls us to act. There are too many people hurting and not enough voices reminding them: "You matter. You are not alone."

At Faith & Justice Support Services, we are committed to being that voice-rooted in faith, grounded in justice, and dedicated to lifting up our community. Together let's ...

Be brave!

Show compassion.

Offer respect, even when none is given.

This is our call to action.
