It’s Still Relevant: Why We Must Keep Showing Up for Justice

A Call to Action (Part II)

Recently, I reread the letter I wrote last September, and it sparked something in me that made me want to address it again. Here’s what I wrote:

I wrote this back in September, when the tragedy involving Kirk occurred. My call to action drew some support, but most people opposed it, and I received a lot of hate. I revisited this letter this week, and I’ve been reflecting, as Leslie Knope once asked, “Are we better off?” Not really.

We are now at war (or are we? I never know how to answer). The Epstein files remain redacted. Many top administrators have been fired, and those still in place remain deceptively defensive. The Pope has spoken out against us. Around the world, leaders look on in disbelief that our nation is in the hands of such corrupt and incompetent officials. And, I can’t forget to mention that gas prices are astronomical, along with everything else in the grocery store.

What are regular citizens like us supposed to do? How do we move forward in this time of uncertainty?

Well, I say we stay the course. We keep moving forward, calling out injustices and doing our best to hold people accountable. We keep standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. We stand up to bullies and call out those spreading fear and lies. We keep doing what is right.

We do our due diligence and vote in this midterm election. We set aside the doubt that our votes won’t matter or that our ballots don’t make a difference. We encourage our neighbors to do the same. And if you can’t vote because you’re undocumented, you tell your family and friends to do it for you. Ask them to be your voice. In the midst of all the chaos, we still need to…

Be Brave!
Show Compassion!
Give respect even when none is given!
